Kuala Perlis Water Festival Medium For Strengthening Community Ties And Foster Unity

KUALA PERLIS, The Kuala Perlis Water Festival, a traditional event since the 1950s, is returning after a hiatus from 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This festival serves as a medium to strengthen community ties and promote unity through the collaboration fostered by the event.

Perlis state secretary Datuk Che Murad Sayang Ramjan stated that the organisation of the water festival also indirectly nurtures close cooperation among various stakeholders, including non-governmental organisations, fishermen’s associations, communities, village residents, as well as representatives from state and federal departments and agencies.

‘As a result, we will witness the vibrant celebration at the grand opening ceremony this evening,’ he said during the opening of the 2024 Kuala Perlis Water Festival, officiated by the Regent of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, last night.

Also in attendance was the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr. Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

Che Murad Sayang emphasise
d that the water festival also raises awareness about the importance of preserving heritage values passed down through the generations.

He urged the state government to consider reviving the water festival, as it is a highly sought-after tourism product that can attract many visitors to Perlis, aligning with the goal of promoting the Visit Perlis Year 2024-2025.

Che Murad Sayang also advised all parties to ensure that the environment surrounding the water festival remains well-maintained and clean.

‘This means that every individual must take responsibility for cleanliness and cultivate it as an essential aspect of our lives. The saying ‘cleanliness is part of faith’ should be embraced and practised, reflecting the character of our society,’ he stated.

The 2024 Kuala Perlis Water Festival 2024, being held from Sept 12 to Sept 15, offers a variety of exciting activities, including a cheerful village competition, a cultural night, and a traditional boat rowing competition.
