KPJ Healthcare, Mayo Clinic Collaborate To Host Neurology Forum

KUALA LUMPUR, KPJ Healthcare Berhad (KPJ Healthcare), in collaboration with Mayo Clinic, hosted a specialised Neurology Forum at KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital today.

KPJ Healthcare said in a statement that the forum, which focused on movement disorders such as Parkinson’s Disease (PD), brought together leading neurologists, healthcare professionals and specialists to discuss the latest treatment advancements and share clinical insights.

It added that, according to the Parkinson’s Foundation, over 10 million people worldwide live with PD, a disorder characterised by tremors, stiffness and balance issues.

About one per cent of people over 60 and nearly four per cent of those over 80 are diagnosed with the disease.

The forum featured distinguished speakers, including Dr James Bower a neurologist from Mayo Clinic; Dr Azmi Abdul Rashid, consultant neurologist at KPJ Damansara; Dr Nordiana Nordin, consultant geriatrician at KPJ Damansara; Dr Nurhayati Mokhty, consultant radiologist at KPJ Damansara; Dr Teh
Pei Chiek, consultant neurologist at Damansara Specialist Hospital 2; and Dr Parwathi Alagirisamy, head of rehabilitation services at KPJ Damansara.

Meanwhile, KPJ Healthcare president and managing director Chin Keat Chyuan said that the forum is one of the many initiatives to raise the standard of care for neurological conditions, ensuring that patients benefit from the latest global medical advancements.

‘Our strategic collaboration with Mayo Clinic allows us to continually enhance our clinical expertise. According to the Department of Statistics Malaysia, the number of PD patients is projected to rise from 20,000 in 2018 to 120,000 by 2040.

‘This underscores the importance of equipping our healthcare professionals with the best knowledge and treatment options to manage the growing impact of neurological disorders,’ he said.

According to the statement, KPJ Damansara and Damansara Specialist Hospital 2 are the only hospitals in Malaysia to be part of the Mayo Clinic Care Network.

KPJ’s medical teams direct access to Mayo Clinic’s extensive knowledge and expertise, ensuring that Malaysian patients benefit from the highest standards of patient-centric care.
