KMJG 2024 Convoy Gets Rousing Welcome In Penang

NIBONG TEBAL, The convoy of Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2024 received a rousing welcome from over 900 students and teachers of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Sungai Acheh dressed in traditional attire and waving the Jalur Gemilang here at noon.

The convoy travelled to the Seberang Perai Utara (SPU) district yesterday before continuing its journey to the Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) and the Seberang Perai Selatan (SPS) districts today, with SMK Sungai Acheh being one of the locations visited.

Penang Information Department director Hasmiza Hussin said this year’s edition of KMJG entails the convoy to carry the Jalur Gemilang across the country, adding that SMK Sungai Acheh is the third checkpoint in the state.

She said this at the ceremony to welcome the KMJG 2024 convoy here, which Sungai Acheh assemblyman Datuk Rashidi Zinol officiated. SPS district officer Khairulnizam Hashim and SMK Sungai Acheh principal Samsiah Omar attended the ceremony.

Meanwhile, Rashidi urged the younger generation to
appreciate the struggles of those who fought against colonialists to achieve independence, adding that patriotism should not just be expressed on social media but should also be demonstrated through actions.

KMJG 2024 comprises 45 vehicles, including 20 motorcycles from the Suzuki V-Strom Club, with the participation of various agencies such as the Information Department, Penang Development Corporation, Malaysian Broadcasting Department, National Film Development Corporation Malaysia, and the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission.

The convoy started its journey at the Permatang Pasir Hall to Penanti Public Market before making several stops in the SPT and SPS districts and distributed a total of 6,500 Jalur Gemilang to the public before heading to SMK Teluk Panglima Bukit Gantang, Parit Buntar in Perak.
