Khalis Project Exposes SK Sultan Idris II Students To Creative Animation

IPOH, A social initiative, called the Khalis Project, led by five Form Two students of the Malay College Kuala Kangsar (MCKK) has opened up opportunities for primary school students in Perak to explore creative animation.

The project advisor, Prof. Dr. Suhaily Hasnan said that through the pilot project, which aims to provide early exposure to basic creative animation, students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Sultan Idris II, Kuala Kangsar, were able to learn new skills in animation production using iPad technology.

She said the project, launched on Aug 24, not only introduced students to the latest technology but also encouraged them to think creatively and produce their own animations.

Suhaily, who is a lecturer at Universiti Teknologi MARA, said the project’s uniqueness lies in the hands-on approach used by the MCKK students to guide the SK Sultan Idris II students.

“They don’t just teach animation techniques, but also on script writing and digital story development,” she said in a statement today.

Suhaily said
it allowed students to understand the whole animation production process from beginning to end.

The outcome of the project, produced by Year Four and Year Five students of SK Sultan Idris II was exhibited at the closing ceremony of the program held last Oct 21.

Khalis Project co-founder Amir Rayyan Muhammad Shaifuddin, in the same statement, said the project is the first of more educational initiatives that will be carried out by the team.

“We see great potential in this programme and plan to expand it to other schools in Perak and then to the rest of Malaysia. This is our first step to make a bigger impact on community education,” he said.

The Khalis Project is supported by Yayasan Bank Rakyat and Zikay Group Berhad as the main sponsor.
