ALOR SETAR, Flooding in Kedah is showing signs of recovery, as the number of evacuees housed in temporary relief centres (PPS) has dropped to 117 individuals from 34 families as of 4 pm today, down from 633 individuals from 212 families this morning.
Malaysian Civil Defence Force state deputy director, Major (PA) Mohd Suhaimi Mohd Zain, stated that only one PPS remains operational, which is the Alor Merah Secondary School (SMK) in the Kota Setar district.
‘The PPS at SMK Alor Merah, which has been operational since Sept 29, remains open because the evacuees there are unable to return home due to the floodwaters not fully receding,’ he said in a statement today.
Meanwhile, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage Public Infobanjir website reported that no rivers in the state have exceeded dangerous levels.
Sungai Anak Bukit River at the TAR bridge and Sungai Kedah at the Kota Setar Highway bridge surpassed warning levels, it added.
