‘Kaleidoscope’ art expo showcases pool of talents from PH, Malaysia

MANILA: An art exhibit showcasing 10 prominent and emerging artists from the Philippines and Malaysia opened in Makati City on Friday.

The expo titled ‘Celebrating Friendship Through Art: A Kaleidoscope of 60 years of Diplomatic Relations between Malaysia and the Philippines’ will be open to the public until Sept. 1 at One Ayala and will feature sharing sessions and talks by the artists themselves.

The exhibit puts on display works of Filipino visual artists Ramon Orlina, Anthony Palomo, Francisco Guerrero, Dennis Bato, and Niakie; and Malaysia’s Dato Tajuddin Ismail, Juhari Said, SC Shekar, Anniketyni Madian and Syahbandi Samat.

‘Malaysia and the Philippines have diverse and vibrant cultures, and through art, we have managed to create a cultural exchange and discover commonalities between our nations while celebrating our uniqueness,’ Malaysian Ambassador to the Philippines Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino said in his message.

‘It is through the eyes of our talented artists that we see the beauty of our cult
ures blended together, and it is through their hands that we feel the power of our connection. Let us keep fostering and fortifying the bonds that unite our nation by promoting artistic and cultural interactions,’ he added.

The art exhibit was organized by the Malaysian Embassy in Manila as part of a series of activities to mark the two nations’ 60 years of diplomatic relations.

In his speech, Castelino added that these artists are a testament that the Philippines and Malaysia are rich in artistic talent that could easily set the two states as the next art capitals of Southeast Asia.

Since their establishment of formal relations in May 1964, the Philippines and Malaysia have maintained a steadfast commitment to mutual respect and cooperation.

Both countries are exploring ways to further enhance bilateral relations from political, economic to cultural ties, including on trade and investment as well as tourism.
