KUALA LUMPUR, The Information Department (JaPen) is calling on resident associations and communities, across the country, to enhance the National Month celebration by proudly displaying the Jalur Gemilang in their respective areas.
JaPen’s Communications and Community Development Service Division director Muhammad Najmi Mustapha said that, while the department and other government agencies have launched various campaigns, active community participation is essential to fostering patriotic spirit.
‘In some areas, communities have taken the initiative to bring their members together, to collectively hoist the Jalur Gemilang,’ he said.
‘This approach is also promoted by JaPen, through the MADANI Community, encouraging the public to join in the National Month celebration by raising the Jalur Gemilang. We hope everyone will participate in this effort,’ he said in Influencer@JAPEN, posted on JaPen’s official Facebook page, today.
To engage the younger generation in National Month festivities, JaPen has leverage
d the Kelab Malaysiaku at 809 schools nationwide, by organising interactive activities and a series of briefings on the meaning of independence.
‘We also have a new programme, called Pentarama X Kelab Malaysiaku. We also visited selected schools to invigorate the spirit of independence,’ he said.
He emphasised that family institutions should also contribute to fostering patriotic spirit, for instance, by displaying the Jalur Gemilang or playing patriotic songs at home or in vehicles.
Regarding the distribution of flags, Muhammad Najmi explained that JaPen provides free flags only during specific programmes, such as the Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang convoy.
‘JaPen only distributes flags at events we organise, and attendees will receive the Jalur Gemilang there.
‘The cost of a flag is between RM4 and RM5, and they are available at various sales outlets. We encourage people to make a small investment to purchase and proudly display the Jalur Gemilang,’ he said.
