Iloilo City acquires lot for calamity-hit, project-affected families

ILOILO CITY: The city government here will acquire a lot in Barangay Calumpang in Molo district to accommodate 64 families affected by a project in Jaro district and displaced by Typhoon Carina.

Lawyer Peter Jason Millare, head of the Iloilo City Local Housing Office (ICLHO), said families affected by a project funded under the Green, Green Program of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) at the back of Jaro’s big market will be relocated to the 6,957-square-meter lot owned by the Tajanlangit family.

‘We are brewing a project under the Green, Green Program from DBM to develop open spaces at the back of the Jaro big market. We have tagged around 49 families,’ he said.

The property is more than enough to cater to the affected families since the property was subdivided into 67 sub-lots at 50 square meters per lot.

The extra sub-lot will be used to relocate 15 families affected by Typhoon Carina. Their houses stand along the coast of Barangay Molo Boulevard.

‘Mayor Jerry P. Treñas wanted to relocate
them permanently,’ he added.

The funds for the purchase will come from the PHP200 million loan of the local government from the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP), primarily intended to address the housing backlogs.

The Sangguniang Panlungsod (city council), during its regular session on Wednesday, approved a resolution on the contract to sell between the city government and the property owner, costing more than PHP16 million.

Millare said they were just waiting for the preparation of the land for them to award the lot to the recipients, which they will pay at a very minimal rate.
