‘Hero kids’ honored for helping cops foil robbery in Rizal town

CALAMBA CITY: Two young boys from Rizal province have received the Batang Bayani Award (Young Hero) from the Calabarzon Regional Police Office (PRO 4A) for their roles in foiling a robbery in progress at a convenience store in Binangonan town last February.

The two kids, whose names were withheld for their own safety, were conferred the unique honor ‘in acknowledgement of their exceptional bravery and civic-mindedness in aiding police authorities in preventing a robbery,’ Brig. Gen. Paul Kenneth Lucas, director of the PRO4A, told reporters on Tuesday.

Lucas did not elaborate as to exactly how the boys helped lawmen foil the robbery, saying their quick thinking and decisive actions led to the successful apprehension of a suspect.

‘Their exemplary conduct not only upheld the values of heroism but also served as an inspiration to the power of community vigilance and cooperation,’ he said.

Lucas personally handed the heroic duo their certificates of recognition along with some material incentives during cerem
onies held Monday at the Rizal Provincial Police Office (RPPO) headquarters in Taytay town.

The young heroes, both said to be still in their “tweener” years, also received scholarships from locally-based nongovernmental organizations.

During the ceremony, Lucas underscored the actions of these two children serve as an example of selflessness and determination, reminding everyone of the significant impact that even the youngest members of the community can have.

“This is a proof that not only police officers like us can be heroes, but also ordinary citizens, whether young or old. Their actions will forever be linked in the history of Calabarzon and it is a matter of pride that we can share it on ‘Araw ng Kagitingan’ where we give importance to the bravery of these children,’ he added.

The Batang Bayani Award was initiated by PRO4A to recognize and honor young individuals who demonstrate exceptional courage and civic responsibility in the face of adversity.
