Heed advice in poem by His Majesty – Shamrahayu

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28 — The two verses of a poem at the end of the royal address by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah at the opening of the First Meeting of the Fifth Session of the 14th Parliament here today is a reminder that must be taken seriously by all elected representatives.

The incumbent of the Institution of Malay Rulers Chair at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), Prof Datuk Dr Shamrahayu Ab Aziz said the poem was His Majesty’s way of giving advice to elected representatives in the Malay way.

“I feel that the poem by His Majesty was not just any poem. It was His Majesty’s advice to the elected representatives to be united for the sake of political stability and the interests of the people,” he said as a guest on Bernama TV’s Ruang Bicara programme tonight, titled “Titah Diraja Istiadat Pembukaan Penggal Kelima Parlimen ke-14”.

According to Shamrahayu, the spirit of unity among leaders was something that was necessary to enable the country to plan its economic and public health development in facing the post-COVID-19 pandemic era.

He said that overall, His Majesty’s royal address covered all aspects and would be the basis for the debate that would take place during the Parliament sitting.

Al-Sultan Abdullah, when concluding his royal address today, recited two verses of a poem asking politicians in the country to focus on efforts to protect the people’s interests.

Inserting the reminder in the two verses, Al-Sultan Abdullah said that hard work would be easy if everyone was united.
