Govt To Continuously Assess External Factors Impact On Economy – Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia will continuously assess the impact of external factors on the economy, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today.

He said the government is mindful of the geopolitical risk and other international factors impacting the Malaysian economy and will assess the situation from time to time.

“Now we are on track (to achieve economic growth),” he told reporters on the sidelines of the Malaysia Commercialisation Year 2024 Summit here today.

Anwar was responding to a question about whether external factors including the recent Japanese 7.1 magnitude earthquake and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war could impact the Malaysian economy.

In May, the Finance Ministry said the government is optimistic that Malaysia’s gross domestic product is well placed to expand within the official forecast range of 4.0 per cent to 5.0 per cent in 2024, driven by higher-than-expected growth in the first quarter of 2024 at 4.2 per cent.
