Fugitive Korean arrested at Immigration office

Manila: A South Korean national who is wanted in his country for embezzling over USD1 million is facing deportation following his arrest inside the Bureau of Immigration (BI) headquarters in Intramuros, Manila.

The 56-year-old Korean was arrested on Thursday while having his passport processed, according to a BI press release Saturday.

The foreigner has an active warrant of arrest issued by the Seoul Jungang District Prosecutor’s Office in 2021 for aggravated punishment and economic crimes in his home country.

His name was placed in the Interpol red notice for allegedly embezzling over USD1 million through loan applications.
