Flood situation in Johor, Pahang improving, Melaka unchanged

KUALA LUMPUR, March 9 (Bernama) — The flood situation in several districts in Johor and Pahang is improving with more victims allowed to return home, while the number of evacuees in Melaka remained unchanged as of this afternoon.

In JOHOR, there has been a drop in the number of victims to 44,780 people in six districts as of 2 pm, compared to 45,048 this morning.

Batu Pahat has the highest number of evacuees, with 35,818, followed by Muar (4,057) and Tangkak (2,424).

Six temporary relief centres in Kota Tinggi had been closed, namely, Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Semanggar; SK Taman Kota Jaya; SK Sungai Telor; Dewan Raya Taman Kota Jaya; Sekolah Agama (SA) Taman Kota Jaya and SA Desa Mahkota, while in Segamat, it involved Balai Raya Kampung Padang Kiambang and Kampung Mensudut Lama.

Ten rivers still exceed the danger level, including Sungai Batu Pahat at Bekok Dam (Batu Pahat) at 19.91 metres (m); Sungai Muar in Buloh Kasap (Segamat) at 9.27m and Sungai Muar in Bukit Kepong (Muar) at 4.94m.

In PAHANG, the Social Welfare Department’s InfoBencana application reported that the number of flood victims in Rompin dropped to 2,122 people from 624 families, compared to 2,248 people from 659 families this morning.

At the same time, Sungai Keratong in the district is still above the danger level but on a declining trend, according to the website publicinfobanjir.water.gov.my.

Meanwhile, in MELAKA, the State Disaster Management Committee said that the number of evacuees in Jasin remained at 523 people from 141 families, and they are currently housed at five PPS.
