Felda Digital Maker Hub to be expanded to 270 schools

KUALA KUBU BHARU, Jan 12 — The Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) is expanding its Felda Digital Maker Hub – Coding and Robotics initiative to 270 national schools in its land schemes.

Its chairman, Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said apart from providing and supporting the digital education landscape for school children, the initiative would also encourage digital manufacturing activities, dissemination and mastery of knowledge based on digital innovation among students and teachers.

He said implemented of the initiative would be conducted through co-curricular activities via the school robotics club which could serve as a platform to improve student excellence.

It will be funded by contributions from non-governmental organisations (NGOs), as well as Felda residents which will be used to supply basic robotic equipment worth RM15,000 for each school, he he told reporters at the pre-launch of the initiative at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Gedangsa here today.

So far, he said Felda had received RM240,000 for implementation of the initiative in 16 schools.

SK Gedangsa is one of the recipients of funds for the implementation of the Felda Digital Maker Hub initiative. The fund for the school was contributed by Pertubuhan Kami Anak Felda president Fakhrurrazi Mohd Habib.

Idris said the teaching and learning modules for the initiative were developed by Zull Design Autotronic, while the aspect on providing the classes and teachers, as well as approval for the module, were the responsibility of the Education Ministry.

He said Felda had previously implemented the Smart Classroom System in 101 secondary schools in its land schemes nationwide.

“So the two initiatives that we are implementing in schools with the cooperation of the MOE are for the benefit of the descendants of Felda settlers towards moulding them into competitive human capital,” he added.
