FA CUP: TURTLES ON SONG, KEDAH EDGE PENANG FOR SLIM ADVANTAGE


KUALA NERUS, Terengganu FC (TFC) boosted their semi-final hopes by trouncing Sabah FC 4-0 in the 2024/2025 FA Cup quarter-finals, first-leg tie at the Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin Stadium here tonight.

TFC, the 2022 FA Cup finalists, should have no problem advancing to the last four when they travel to the Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu for the return-leg match on July 6.

TFC, under the guidance of head coach Tomislav Steinbruckner, shot ahead after just nine minutes when Manuel Ott tapped home a cross from Muhammad Safawi Rasid.

The Turtles doubled their lead in the 37th minute when Ott turned provider for Ismaheel Akinade to slot home, much to the delight of the more than 15,000 home fans.

TFC made it 3-0 five minutes later off a powerful shot by Marin Pilj from inside the box before Akinade grabbed his second, and the team’s fourth, in the 48th minute.

In another match, Kedah Darul Aman (KDA) FC will take a one-goal lead for the return leg at home after overcoming Penang FC 1-0 away at the City Stadium
.

Substitute midfielder Mohamad Hasbullah Abu Bakar was the hero for KDA FC when he slotted home the only goal of the match in the 73rd minute after Penang FC goalkeeper Sikh Izhan failed to hold on to a powerful shot by KDA FC skipper Sony Norde.

The return leg match will be held at the Darul Aman Stadium in Alor Setar, Kedah on July 5.
