Dr Sharifah Mazlina leaves for Antarctica to take part in CF2041 Expedition

SEPANG, March 14 (Bernama) — Dr Sharifah Mazlina Syed Abdul Kadir, the founder of non-governmental organisation (NGO) All Woman Empowerment To Accelerate (Aweta), left for the Antarctica tonight to participate in the Climate Force 2041 (CF2041) expedition cruise to study global warming in the South Pole.

Joining her will be Muhammad Khairul Akmal Adam, 20, who was picked through a selection process specifically for the mission.

In sharing details of the mission, Sharifah Mazlina said that they and 150 other participants from several countries, including the United States and Kuwait, would embark on a 12-day expedition starting from Ushuaia in Argentina on Wednesday (March 17).

”All the participants will be taken to the iceberg areas so as to see for themselves the impact of global warming,” she told reporters at the sending-off ceremony at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) here.

Meanwhile, Muhammad Khairul Akmal, who is a second-year student at the Multimedia University, regards the mission as an exposure for him to learn more about global warming issues.

The diploma student in Creative Multimedia hopes to make full use of the knowledge and experience gained from the mission by sharing them with other youth groups.

“I will try to use the techniques learned to make the information on global warming an interesting read for the younger groups,” he added.
