DPWH upgrades road leading to Dumangas RoRo port in Iloilo

A PHP39.19 million coastal road upgrading project allows convenient and faster access leading to the roll-on-roll-off (RoRo) port in the municipality of Dumangas and as an alternate route to other northern Iloilo towns.

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) project involved the asphalt paving of the 5.13-kilometer portion of the Iloilo City-Leganes-Dumangas Coastal Road, specifically in the Sta. Barbara section.

‘This coastal road serves as a vital transportation link that traverses through the coastal communities of Dumangas, Leganes, and Iloilo City. This national road is vital in providing better connectivity and accessibility for the residents and businesses in these areas,’ the DPWH said in a news release Friday.

DPWH Regional Director Sanny Boy Oropel said overlaying the road section with asphalt is essential for maintaining the road surface effectively, improving aesthetics, enhancing durability, and reducing preventative maintenance costs.

‘Asphalt paving is cost-effective and ensure
s longevity and durability of the pavement. Adding a new protective layer will significantly extend the lifespan of the existing pavement,’ Oropel said.

Oropel said asphalt pavement reduces expenses for the wear and tear of vehicles and restores the surface’s ability to handle heavy traffic
