DOTr assures PH aviation’s sustained compliance with int’l standards

MANILA: The Department of Transportation (DOTr) assured the country’s continued compliance with international aviation standards towards better travel experience and cost-effective cargo transport.

During the opening of the Philippine pavilion at the Singapore Airshow on Tuesday, Transportation Secretary Jaime Bautista said international aviation standards ensure efficient operations and highlight the demand for more aviation training in the country.

‘I therefore invite aviation schools as well as air cargo integrators to consider locating in our strategically located and fully supported air hubs to take advantage of our economy’s sharp growth trajectory,’ Bautista said.

He showcased the recent recognition of the training center of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) as an ‘Asian center of excellence’ by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

Bautista said improved training is necessary due to developments in the country’s aviation industry, such as the successful bidding
for the modernization of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and the successful operations of Clark International Airport (CRK) and Mactan-Cebu International Airport by private operators.

In particular, he said the operations of the CRK will make the Clark Special Economic Zone a ‘mega-logistics hub with its infrastructure flagship programs, transforming it as a leading regional aerotropolis within the next five years.’

In addition to these large airports, the DOTr continues to improve regional airports throughout the country.

The Singapore Airshow, held at the Changi Exhibition Center in Singapore, is a gathering of high-level government and military delegations as well as corporate leaders around the world.

It showcases leading aerospace companies as well as new budding players in the field of international aerospace and defense markets.
