Deserving students to benefit from E. Samar State U’s 2 satellites

House of Representatives Speaker Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez said Thursday poor but deserving students would benefit from the proposed bills seeking the creation of two satellite campuses of the Eastern Samar State University (ESSU). In his speech during Eastern Samar’s 58th founding anniversary in New Eastern Samar, Romualdez said qualified students would no longer have to leave the province to obtain quality education once the measures become law. ‘HB (House Bill) 2347 establishes a satellite campus of the Eastern Samar State University in the municipality of Balangiga, ensuring that the bright minds of our province need not wander far to achieve their dreams,’ he told the audience. ‘This bill is a testament to our belief that education is the cornerstone of progress.’ He also cited HB 5726 that would convert the ESSU campus in Arteche, a third- class municipality, into a full-fledged institution of learning. Substituted by HB 6587, the House approved HB 2347 on Jan. 31, 2023 and transmitted to the Senate while HB 5726 is undergoing committee deliberations. ‘It is an acknowledgment that the quest for knowledge knows no bounds and that the doors of education must be opened wider to embrace all those who seek it,’ said Romualdez, main author of the twin bills.
