De Lima seeks fresh mandate as party-list group nominee

MANILA – Former senator Leila De Lima is looking for a comeback as a legislator as she filed her certificate of nomination – certificate of acceptance of nomination (CON-CAN) to represent the Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list, at the Manila Hotel Tent City on Saturday.

De Lima said the group represents ‘the marginalized that were left behind by the system that ignored them.’

Former representatives Teodoro Baguilat of Ifugao and Erin Tañada joined her as the group’s second and third nominees.

De Lima, a long-time critic of former president Rodrigo Duterte, had been cleared of all three drug charges filed against her during the previous administration. She was released in June after seven years in detention.

Meanwhile, broadcaster Ben Tulfo filed his certificate of candidacy as an independent senatorial bet.

Tulfo, brother of Senator Raffy Tulfo and ACT-CIS Party-list Rep. Erwin Tulfo, said he has been helping Filipinos in need for the past 22 years and wanted to bring it further once elected to the Sena
te.

When asked what he could offer to the Filipinos apart from what his brother has brought to the Senate, he said, ‘Isa lang dugo ang dumadaloy sa amin, public service (The same blood flows through us, public service).’ (PNA)
