Davao Oro landslide death toll at 98, 8 missing

DAVAO CITY: The death toll of the Barangay Masara landslide in Maco, Davao de Oro has reached 98, while eight persons remain missing.

In a Facebook post on Monday, the Maco municipal government said the retrieved bodies were the result of continuing search and retrieval operations after the landslide occurred on the evening of Feb. 6.

Meanwhile, Governor Dorothy Gonzaga thanked all responders and rescuers from various government agencies “who were on the frontlines after the landslide incident.”

‘We thank you for being a hero to our brothers and sisters who were affected by the landslide. I thank everyone who gave their time, effort, and even put their lives at risk just to help the victims,’ Gonzaga said during Monday’s flag-raising ceremony at the provincial capitol grounds.

Gonzaga said families whose loved ones remain missing may coordinate with Management of the Dead and the Missing at the incident command post in Maco.
