Cost of rationalized infra flagship projects climbs to P9T

MANILA: The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board has reduced the number of the administration’s Infrastructure Flagship Projects (IFPs) but their cost has climbed to PHP9.14 trillion from PHP8.7 trillion at end-2023.

The NEDA Board, chaired by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., said it has updated the IFP list, which was approved on Tuesday.

The Board delisted 36 projects and added 23 new ones, bringing the total number of IFPs to 185 projects.

‘Our list of IFPs under the Build Better More Program serves as a prioritization tool to identify high-impact infrastructure projects that require immediate government support. By rationalizing the list, we ensure the implementation of as many important infrastructure projects of high significance as possible,’ NEDA Secretary and the Board’s Vice Chair Arsenio Balisacan said.

Balisacan clarified that the 36 projects removed from the IFP list will still proceed as planned under the regular government program.

NEDA Undersecretary Joseph Capuno, m
eanwhile, reported to the NEDA Board that 74 IFPs were under implementation.

Capuno said 19 of the IFPs are targeted to be completed in 2024.

Last year, the administration completed and inaugurated the 11.6-kilometer Samar Pacific Coastal Road Project, which is included on the government’s IFP list.

As of fourth quarter last year, 30 IFPs were already approved and 83 were undergoing preparation.
