Collective Agreement Includes Nine Pct Salary Adjustment For Sarawak Bank Employees

Clerical and non-clerical bank employees in Sarawak will receive a nine percent salary adjustment as part of new benefits from the 17th Collective Agreement (CA) signed yesterday between the Sarawak Bank Employees Union (SBEU) and the Sarawak Commercial Banks Association (SCBA).

Union Network International – Malaysia Labour Centre (UNI MLC) president Datuk Mohamed Safie BP Mammal, said the agreement benefits approximately 1,100 employees in Sales and Service grades 1 (SS1), SS2, and SS3 working in 14 commercial banks.

“The CA also introduces an inaugural annual festive allowance of RM1,800 for the employees’ respective festivals,” he said in a statement today.

He noted that the banks have agreed to provide a one-time ex-gratia payment of RM2,000 to appreciate the union’s cooperation and support in implementing transformation initiatives and job empowerment responsibilities.

The CA includes an increase in childcare subsidies and disability benefits by up to 33 percent, along with medical benefits, which
will see a rise from RM1,300 to RM1,800.

Meanwhile, SCBA president Maureen Paril stated that more positions in the highest salary category, specifically for employees graded SS3, will be created to acknowledge the enhancement and empowerment of their roles.
