Bangladeshi Worker Falls To Death At Penang Construction Site

KEPALA BATAS, A Bangladeshi worker died after falling from an 18-metre height while carrying out formwork at a construction site here on Monday.

The Penang Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) said the 22-year-old victim was a general worker from a subcontractor company appointed to open the ‘formwork’ on the roof structure of the airflow hole on the building known as the ‘dog house’.

A ‘dog house’ is a small, shed-like structure that workers use on a construction site or in residential settings for various purposes.

‘The worker was found on the ground floor with a piece of plywood that fell with him. He was confirmed dead at the scene. The DOSH representatives went to the location to conduct a preliminary inspection,” said a statement from the department today,

The statement said an immediate work-stop notice was issued involving all airflow structures (work) on buildings at the incident site until the investigation is completed.

The Penang DOSH has also instructed the subcontractor to co
nduct an internal investigation to identify the cause of the incident and measures for improvement and make a case presentation to the department,
