‘Bahtera Merdeka’ Ignites Patriotic Spirit In Moon

ALOR SETAR, The captivating arrangement of music, combined with emotionally stirring melodies and lyrics, not only makes patriotic songs pleasant to hear but also deeply moving.

These songs have become crucial in fostering a sense of patriotism, especially during the National Month celebrations.

This was acknowledged by Chenkamon Prak Sit, 25, a Siamesese woman from Kampung Titi Akar, Pendang who described patriotic songs like ‘Bahtera Merdeka’ truly ignite the patriotic spirit within her.

‘I deeply value this song because its music, melody and message are truly meaningful and can greatly uplift one’s spirit when fully embraced,’ she told Bernama in a recent interview.

Chenkamon, fondly known as Moon, said the lyrics of the song, which revolves around Malaysia after gaining independence, resonate deeply with her and she often finds herself singing it.

She recalled making a video of herself singing the song and uploading it on social media, where it became viral and earned praise from netizens for her pe
rformance.

‘I’ve been singing patriotic songs since my school days. In Form Three, a teacher told me that I had a pleasant voice and took me to participate in a school-level patriotic singing competition.

‘The next year, I represented my school in a district-level competition, and while I was studying at Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI), I frequently showcased my singing talent,’ said the Bachelor of Education (Arts) graduate.

Chenkamon added that besides patriotic songs, she enjoys Malaysian traditional music, Malay classics and Malay poetry, all of which she finds deeply meaningful.

She also stressed the importance of instilling a love for the country among the younger generation, so they do not forget the origins of the peace and harmony they enjoy today.

‘We should be grateful that we live in peace and unity. Even though I belong to a minority community, I see that job and education opportunities are accessible to all,’ said Moon, who works as a sales assistant.
