Abang Johari Satisfied With Sarawak’s Achievements, Cooperation With Federal Govt

KUCHING, Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg expressed his satisfaction with the state’s achievements and ability to work effectively with the federal government to ensure national peace and development.

Looking ahead to a bright future, he emphasised the need for Sarawak to optimise available opportunities by diversifying its economy, including establishing an aerospace hub.

“We are currently in discussions with the Minister of Investment, Trade, and Industry, Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, regarding the aerospace industry.

“We have also launched an aerospace faculty at Kolej Universiti ICATS with the support of lecturers from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Singapore, and the United States. We hope this initiative will help diversify Sarawak’s economy and create more job opportunities for the younger generation,” he said during his speech at the Sarawak Premier’s Department tea reception at Wisma Bapa Malaysia today.

Previously, the media quoted Tengku Zafrul on the government’s proposa
l to make Sarawak the nation’s aerospace industry hub, which was discussed during the recent Sarawak Industry Coordination Joint Committee Meeting.

Johari stressed the importance of respecting the state’s rights enshrined in the Federal Constitution and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) by any serving Prime Minister.

“In a meeting with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim three days ago in Kuala Lumpur, issues related to land authority and carbon storage on the continental shelf were amicably resolved. He acknowledged these rights,” he said.

“With all these achievements, it is crucial for us to train young leaders to continue the state’s development efforts and strengthen the economy for a brighter future,” he added.
