KUALA LUMPUR, The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has successfully onboarded 140 artificial intelligence (AI) solution providers in the Malaysia Digital (MD) ecosystem, generating RM1 billion in revenue as of July 2024.
Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo said this underscores the Malaysian AI sector’s vast growth and promising future.
“This achievement speaks volumes about the role AI is already playing in Malaysia in economic transformation and of course the development hereafter.
“AI is reshaping the business landscape, from boosting productivity in small and medium enterprises to enhancing efficiency in large corporations,” he said during the launch of ‘MDEC Tech Adoption Summit: Artificial Intelligence (AI)’ here today.
According to Gobind, the top three sectors among the AI solution providers include digital health, digital city and agriculture, and all these local companies are MD-certified.
“I think it is important to understand that AI technology can also assist us in taking preventiv
e steps and preemptive measures so that we can tell what kind of problems would happen as we go along.
‘We can see solutions in the health and agriculture sectors that show how we can prepare ourselves for those problems going ahead,’ he added.
Commenting on the upcoming Budget 2025, Gobind said the government will focus on improving the infrastructure that will support the application of AI, especially for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). “So, it is something that cuts across all ministries but from the infrastructure point of view we can focus on adoption and so on, I think this is something that MDEC has already taken the lead on,” he added.
