12-year-old Child Prodigy Makes History As Youngest Student At UM

KUALA LUMPUR, Universiti Malaya (UM) has confirmed the admission of 12-year-old prodigy Izz Imil Sharom, making him the youngest student in the university’s history since its establishment in 1962.

Universiti Malaya vice-chancellor, Prof Datuk Seri Dr Noor Azuan Abu Osman, in a statement said that the child is enrolled in the Bachelor of Science in Mathematics programme at the Faculty of Science.

He added that Izz Imil successfully completed an interview process conducted by a Special Committee set up by the university, which was subsequently approved by the University Senate.

“Given Izz Imil’s young age, we kindly request that everyone respects his need for space and privacy as he adjusts to university life. This consideration is essential to ensure he can thrive academically while also enjoying a positive growth experience,” he said.

The announcement gained significant attention on social media, with many celebrating Izz Imil’s remarkable achievement as the youngest student ever to register at UM.
