100 Bernama Female Staff Participate In First-ever Brisk Walk Event

KUALA LUMPUR, Around 100 female employees of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) took part in a brisk walk programme today, organised for the first time to encourage them to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Bernama deputy editor-in-chief (News Service) Nasriah Darus said the activity was organised by the Association of Women and Wives of Bernama Employees (Benita) to encourage physical activity to improve fitness and health, as well as to promote social interaction among staff.

Themed white and pink, the participants were flagged off from Wisma Bernama at about 5.30 pm. They walked nearly four kilometres around Titiwangsa Lake before heading back to the headquarters.

‘Although this activity was quite brief, the response was very encouraging. God willing, we will hold this event annually and maybe we will consider doing it at different locations,’ she said after the flag-off ceremony.

Nasriah said participants were also given the national flag, Jalur Gemilang, to be waved during the walk to create a
lively atmosphere and boost patriotic spirit in conjunction with the National Month celebration.

Meanwhile, Faridah Al Akmal Mohd Salleh from the Audit and Quality Management Department said the activity not only promotes a healthy lifestyle but also helps to strengthen the relationships between staff from different departments.

‘This activity is actually great because we get to know staff from other departments, not just our friends from the same office. Otherwise, we wouldn’t know the other employees working in Bernama,’ she said.

Ain Suraya Mohamad Lazim from the Commercial Department said the activity provided an opportunity for all female staff to come together and enliven the event organised by Benita.

‘I’m very happy because it’s not easy for us to gather. Usually, our activities are mixed gender, so having special activities for women brings much joy,’ she said.

A brisk walk is an activity that involves walking at a fast pace along a predetermined route, focusing on maintaining moderate intensity
throughout.

The activity includes several components to ensure participants receive maximum benefits, such as providing information about the route to be taken and a warming-up session to prevent injuries.

Additionally, there are selfie activities for participants, as well as cooling down exercise after the brisk walk to aid muscle recovery.
