‘1 VILLAGE 1 PANTUN’ PROJECT TO ENLIVEN TMM2024

The ‘1 Village 1 Pantun’ project is set to enliven the Visit Melaka Year 2024 (TMM2024) celebration, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh.

He said the state government has mapped out a plan to decorate 701 villages and 1,021 residential areas with pantun signs to attract visitors to the state.

“Visitors will also be greeted with the uniqueness of pantun displayed along the corridors and entry points to the state.

“The best pantun chosen to adorn entrances to Melaka will further dignify the state’s arts and culture while enriching the Malay language treasures of the country,” he said when winding up the debate at the State Legislative Assembly sitting at Kompleks Seri Negeri, Ayer Keroh here today.

According to Ab Rauf, the state Technology and Information Division would manage the database for the collection of the best pantun, with assistance from Institut Tun Perak and other relevant agencies under the Tourism, Heritage, Arts and Culture portfolio as the secretariat.

He said the State Education Department was actively conducting pantun writing competitions in schools at the district and state level to promote appreciation and love for art and language heritage, particularly among the younger generation.

“I believe that by showcasing art and Malay cultural heritage such as pantun, Melaka will become a centre of attraction for Malay language enthusiasts across the archipelago,” he said.
