1.7K police, volunteers to secure Panagbenga grand parades

BAGUIO: The Baguio City Police Office (BCPO) on Wednesday said around 1,753 policemen, volunteers, police interns and medical personnel will provide security and medical services during the two grand Panagbenga parades on Feb. 24 to 25.

In a press conference here on Wednesday, Maj. Rommel Quinio, chief of the BCPO’s operations division, said 1,032 policemen have been tasked to oversee crowd control, manage traffic and serve as intelligence personnel, while the police interns will help in traffic management.

He said 19 medical teams will be deployed along the parades’ route.

During the same briefing, Lt. Col. Zacarias Dausen, chief of the BCPO Traffic Enforcement Unit, advised the public to check for information about the road closures and road conditions to avoid being stuck in traffic.

“The City Council resolution says the closure will start from 1 a.m. but we will play it by ear. Sayang kung isara na natin at wala pa naman ang mga magpaparada (The City Council resolution says the closure will start from
1 a.m. but we will play it by ear. It will be a waste of time if we close the roads while the revelers are not yet there),’ he said.

Panagbenga or the Baguio Flower Festival started on Feb. 1 and will be held until March 3.
