VP Sara: Support law enforcers in fighting terrorism

Vice President Sara Z. Duterte urged Dabawenyos to cooperate with and support law enforcers in combating terrorism as this city commemorated the eighth year of the Roxas Night Market bombing.

‘To all people in Davao, to the Dabawenyos, we need to unite and support the law enforcement agencies in their counterterrorism efforts. We need to be vigilant,’ she said in an interview on the sidelines of a ceremony where prayers, candles and flowers were offered at the memorial site.

Duterte added that if they discover suspicious-looking persons or objects, they must report at once to Task Force Davao.

‘The information given will be immediately responded to by authorities and we can stop the people who have bad intentions in our city [terrorism],’ she said.

The bombing killed 17 and wounded more than 60 on Sept 2, 2016.

Seven suspects were found guilty of multiple murder and multiple attempted murder and sentenced to reclusion perpetua in 2020.

The city continues to provide monetary and educational assistance t
o the families and their dependents.

The 2023 data of the City Social Welfare and Development Office showed there were 33 beneficiaries of the educational assistance while two beneficiaries have graduated from college.

‘I hope they will remember all the happy memories with them and they will continue to pray for them,’ she said.
