Village chief, wife slain in Maguindanao Norte ambush

COTABATO CITY: A village chairperson and his wife were killed by still-unidentified gunmen in Sultan Kudarat town in Maguindanao del Norte on Sunday night.

Lt. Col. Esmael Madin, Sultan Kudarat municipal police chief, identified the fatalities as Esmael Mustapha, chair of Barangay Bulibod, and his wife, Rahima, also the village secretary.

‘The couple was walking home from the town center during the foundation anniversary activities at the municipal gymnasium when attacked by still unidentified gunmen at past 10 p.m.,’ Madin said in an interview Monday.

Responding police found several empty bullet shells at the crime scene near the bodies of the victims.

Police have yet to determine the identities of the attackers and the motives behind the attack.
