V-League: NU eyes No. 2; UST, UE dispute women’s lead

MANILA: UAAP champion National University guns for a second win against Emilio Aguinaldo College in the 2024 V-League Collegiate Challenge at Paco Arena in Manila on Sunday.

Michaelo Buddin and Leo Aringo Jr. will spearhead the Bulldogs in the 10 a.m. match.

‘No matter who our opponent is, we always prepare. There are no weak teams here in the V-League. Everyone is strong,’ NU assistant coach Dong Dela Cruz said in a statement.

Meanwhile, Ateneo de Manila will face Far Eastern University at noon, with the winner gaining the early 2-0 lead and a possible tie with NU.

Aimar Okeke will lead the Blue Eagles under interim head coach Vince Mangulabnan, while Mikko Espartero and Dryx Saavedra will banner the Tamaraws.

In the women’s division, defending champion College of Saint Benilde and Far Eastern University clash at 3 p.m. after losing their inaugural games.

The University of the East Lady Warriors beat the Lady Blazers, 25-22, 25-23, 25-21; while the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons outlast
ed the Lady Tamaraws, 20-25, 25-19, 26-24, 17-25, 16-14, on July 31.

UAAP runner-up University of Santo Tomas which conquered Lyceum of the Philippines University, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-17, on July 28, will dispute the lead against UE at 5 p.m.

‘We need to prepare ourselves as there are many areas we need to improve on. They also have rookies, and players who were off the bench last season are now contributing. Adjustments are necessary,’ UST head coach Kungfu Reyes said.
