Toshiba Introduces New Gate Driver IC for Enhanced Automotive Applications.

Toshiba: Toshiba Electronic Devices and Storage Corporation (Toshiba) has begun providing engineering samples of its latest gate driver IC, the “TB9084FTG,” designed for three-phase brushless DC motors. These motors are crucial for driving essential on-board functions, including automotive body system applications, electric pumps, and motor generators.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the shift from mechanically controlled parts to electrified systems in road vehicles has led to an increased incorporation of electric motors, including those in automotive body system applications. This transition has also facilitated the replacement of traditional brushed DC motors with quieter and more durable brushless DC motors.

The TB9084FTG is designed to support this transition by offering the minimum required gate driver IC functions for automotive applications. It supports a wide range of motor applications when used in conjunction with external devices such as MOSFETs, power supply ICs, microcontrollers, and commun
ication physical components. Changes in customer system requirements can be addressed by replacing these external devices, providing significant flexibility in system design.

The minimization of functions in the TB9084FTG allows for one of the industry’s smallest packages, contributing to equipment miniaturization. The package features a wettable flank structure, enabling easy visual inspection to confirm the reliability of soldered joints. Toshiba plans to continue expanding its lineup of gate driver ICs by assessing market needs and optimizing product functions, with the aim of furthering electrification and enhancing the safety of automotive equipment.
