Tokyo Game Show 2024 To Kick Off Tomorrow With Theme ‘Trailblaze The World Of Gaming’

TOKYO, The Tokyo Game Show (TGS) 2024 will kick off tomorrow, Sept 26-29, at Makuhari Messe in Chiba, Japan, marking 28 years since its launch in 1996.

Themed ‘Trailblaze the World of Gaming’, TGS 2024 will feature 10 Malaysian gaming industry players namely Adticles, Ammobox Studios, Bear Down Studios, Dreamscapes Edtech, Esolved MSC, Goolee, Magnus Games Studio, Rcade Studio, Why Knot, and Todak Studios.

The companies will be hosted under the Malaysia Pavilion, coordinated by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) and the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) with the goal of strengthening Malaysia’s presence in the global gaming arena.

MDEC head of transformation Datuk Fadzli Abdul Wahit said as a development agency under the Ministry of Digital, MDEC has been actively involved in TGS for the past eight years since 2016.

‘The impact we have experienced from this event has consistently been very positive.

‘For this year’s event, we have continued to work closely with all the industry players. (This trip) we had engaged with big companies such as JP Games, Shueisha Games, Konami and many more,’ he told Bernama.

Fadzli said MATRADE and MDEC held discussions with major gaming companies about potential collaborations and partnerships that could be feasible in the near future.

‘I believe that the international exposure provided to our local companies at TGS 2024 will enable them to collaborate on investments, explore new opportunities, and enhance technology, ultimately creating a win-win situation for both local and global companies,’ he said.

MATRADE Tokyo will coordinate key activities at the Malaysia Pavilion, including business matching, networking sessions, and media exposure, while MDEC will conduct high-level meetings with Japanese game publishers and tech incubators throughout the four-day event.

TGS 2024 will feature over 700 exhibitors, including prominent Japanese companies such as Nintendo, Sony PlayStation, Sega, Square Enix, Capcom, Bandai Namco, and Konami.

Japan’s gaming market is projected to reach 66 million users by 2029 and generate US$44.41 billion (US$1 = RM4.15) in revenue by the end of 2024, making it one of the largest gaming markets in the world.

The global gaming market is estimated to reach US$503.14 billion by 2025, with Asia Pacific set to remain the top gaming market worldwide.
