TEKUN Nasional Has To Recover RM2.6 Bln In Loans Since 2008 – Ramanan

KUALA LUMPUR, A total of RM2.6 billion in loans needs to be recovered by the National Entrepreneurial Group Economic Fund (TEKUN Nasional) for the period from 2008 to this year.

Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Datuk R. Ramanan said this amount comprises the collective sum of loans due for repayment as well as new loans involving more than 100,000 borrowers over that period.

‘They (the borrowers) are making the repayments. Now, when we advise them and make calls to speak with them, payments are made. However, (some of the allocated) funds are stuck.

‘Therefore, if the RM2.6 billion is returned to us, we can provide more loans to other borrowers out there,’ he told reporters after the “Sembang Santai Vanakam MADANI Bersama Usahawan India” programme here today.

Ramanan also announced that TEKUN Nasional borrowers with less than 50 per cent of their loan balance remaining or less than two years of repayment left are eligible to apply for a second financing.

However, he said appl
icants must have a good repayment record, complete documentation and meet all the necessary conditions to apply for the second financing.

‘The application will be successful if all approvals, regulations, procedures and conditions are met,’ he said.

In this regard, he advised borrowers to repay their loans to provide opportunities for others to apply for TEKUN Nasional financing.

‘… if loans are repaid, we can offer more loans to more people, and TEKUN Nasional can support the growth of more traders and entrepreneurs. So, give others the chance that you have had and enjoyed,’ he said.

Meanwhile, Ramanan said today’s programme is aimed at further explaining the financing schemes available to Indian community entrepreneurs and ensuring no one is left out.

The programme also sought to gather feedback on the issues faced by the group and the benefits from the opportunities provided by TEKUN Nasional through the Indian Community Entrepreneur Development Financing Empowerment Scheme (SPUMI Goes Big).

Some 5
00 TEKUN Nasional Indian community entrepreneurs from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor, Perak, Pahang and Negeri Sembilan attended the dialogue session.
