Tanjong Malim Health Clinic Operating Hours Under Scrutiny Amid Deaths.

IPOH: The operating hours of the Tanjong Malim Health Clinic will be reviewed and presented to the Ministry of Health (MoH), Perak exco member A. Sivanesan said. He was addressing complaints about the clinic’s new hours, which now operate from 8 am to 5 pm, a reduction from the previous 24-hour service.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, Sivanesan assured that he would investigate the matter and inform the Minister of Health, Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, who may also deploy a team to examine the situation. He urged the public not to hastily blame the hospital or clinic for the two recent deaths without understanding the actual causes or the patients’ conditions.

The clinic ceased its 24-hour service on August 1, aligning with the operating hours of other rural clinics. However, this change has sparked concern among Tanjong Malim residents, who fear that the reduced hours could result in more fatalities.

Reports indicate that on October 13, M. Praveen, a 25-year-old oil palm estate supervisor, died after b
eing rushed to a private clinic for emergency treatment. On November 1, MCA deputy president Datuk Dr Mah Hang Soon advocated for the restoration of the 24-hour service, arguing that the reduction negatively impacts the community and may have contributed to recent deaths.

In response to these events, Sivanesan confirmed that an investigation into Praveen’s death is underway. Officials plan to visit the victim’s family to gather necessary information, as there are currently no records of him at the clinic. “We are collecting facts, including his medical history, to prepare a report,” Sivanesan stated.
