Taiping 150 Ride 2024 Targets Participation Of 1,500 Riders – Wong


PETALING JAYA, The inaugural Taiping 150 Ride 2024 on Dec 8 is set to be the closing event for the Visit Perak Year 2024 and the 150th anniversary of Taiping.

Taiping Member of Parliament Wong Kah Woh said the cycling event, which targets 1,500 participants, will start and end at the iconic Taiping Lake Gardens, with the flag-off set for 6.45 am.

“Participants will ride through unique and challenging routes, crossing beautiful rural areas in Perak, including Sepetang, Simpang Empat and Kamunting while enjoying the pristine and serene surroundings,’ he told a media conference here today.

He added that the event, organised in collaboration with the Elite Cycling Club and Gosportz Sdn Bhd, is not only aimed at bringing the community closer but also at promoting Taiping as an exciting cycling destination, with participants getting to enjoy the scenic views and historic areas.

Local and foreign participants are welcome to take part, with cash and a lucky draw worth over RM30,000 on offer at the event, he said

The Taiping 150 Ride has two main categories, namely the 90-kilometre (km) and 60km distances, as well as a 20km leisure ride that is open to the public.

Wong, also the Deputy Education Minister, said students aged seven to 17 can register for all categories for free.

The event also aims to encourage the involvement of youngsters in healthy activities and expose them to cycling, which will contribute to their physical and social development, he said, adding that the top five finishers in each category will receive cash prizes and medals.
