Sunday rally best platform to express Malaysian support for Palestinians – ABIM


KUALA LUMPUR, The ‘Freedom for Palestine’ rally proposed for Sunday will be the best platform for Malaysia to send a clear signal to the international community about its unwavering support for the struggle of the people in Gaza, according to the main organiser.

Islamic Youth Movement of Malaysia (ABIM) president Ahmad Fahmi Mohd Samsudin said the gathering at the Axiata Arena would also symbolise the resolve and anger of Malaysians who strongly condemn the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh.

“Let’s all Malaysians come together at Axiata Arena dressed in white, bringing the spirit for Palestine, hoping that this support will inspire those there (in Gaza) that there are people around the world who are aware and praying for them,” he said on the ‘Malaysia Petang Ini’ programne aired by BERNAMA TV today.

Ahmad Fahmi said the assembly, with ABIM as one of the main organisers, will begin with congregational Maghrib prayers and a sermon, followed by speeches from national leaders, culminating in an address b
y Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“On that day, we also invite leaders from the Buddhist, Christian and Hindu communties to join us in stating that the crisis in Palestine is no longer about religion but a humanitarian issue. We stand together regardless of skin colour, race or religion,” he said.

At the same time, he assured the safety of participants attending the gathering..

“This is a peaceful gathering, we have coordinated with the relevant ministries and the police for security aspects. We hope the participants will not provoke or bring any weapons or dangerous items,” he said, adding that the gathering is expected to conclude by 11 pm.
