SUKMA: Terengganu Cyclists Dominate Men’s Criterium With Gold, Silver Finish


KUCHING, Terengganu’s men’s cycling squad ended their road race campaign at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in style, sweeping both gold and silver in today’s criterium event.

The race, held at the Pehin Sri Adenan Satem Highway, covered a distance of 43.2 kilometres (km) across 24 laps, including eight sprint zones.

Mohamad ‘Afi Danial Ramli emerged victorious, claiming gold with 19 points, while Muhamad Iqbal Daniel Mohd Nawawi secured silver with 16. It was also Mohamad ‘Afi’s second gold in the Games, having dominated the men’s mass start road race event with his teammates two days ago.

Melaka’s Muhammad Hafiq Mohd Jafri had to settle for bronze, finishing with 13 points in the event which featured 78 riders.

In the women’s event, Kedah’s Nur Fitrah Shaari also added another gold to her tally, finishing first in the 32.4 km race, which included 18 laps and six sprint zones, with 20 points.

The gold medallist from yesterday’s team mass start event defeated Federal Territories’ Yeong Zhen Yi, who took
silver with 13 points, followed by Terengganu’s Ameera Alya Md. Zahiruddin, who earned bronze with 12 points.

The women’s race, which began at 9 am and involved 40 riders, also witnessed a crash on the 16th lap, involving eight cyclists.
