SUKMA: Pahang Gives Out RM570,000 In Incentives To Athletes, Coaches, Managers

KUANTAN, The Pahang government distributed incentives worth RM570,00 to its athletes who won medals as well as the managers and coaches involved at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) in Sarawak last month.

Menteri Besar Dato’ Sri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said that of the amount, RM391,000 was given to 161 athletes as a sign of appreciation to the state contingent, which brought home 23 golds, 21 silvers and 32 bronzes.

“The state government congratulates everyone involved. Although we finished ninth overall, we managed to bag more medals compared to the previous edition.

“As promised, we have given the medallists financial contributions for their spirited performances,’ he told reporters after presenting the incentives at a leading hotel here today.

He said the state government had set the incentives given to their athletes at RM6,000 for gold, RM3,000 for silver and RM1,500 for bronze (individual events); and RM2,00 for gold, RM1,500 for silver and RM1,000 for bronze (team events).

Wan Rosly said the state go
vernment would consider increasing the incentive rates for its medallists at the 2026 edition in Selangor.

Meanwhile, 18-year-old shooter Cheah Zen Hong received the highest amount of RM26,000 after raking in seven gold medals from seven categories.

“I made my second SUKMA appearance in Sarawak. Previously, I only bagged three golds and one silver from the five categories I took part in.

“But, this time, I managed to gun down seven gold medals in the individual and team events. This incentive will spur me to strive harder for more success,’ he said, adding that he would use the incentive received to pursue tertiary education.
