SUKMA 2024: S’wak Governor, wife guests of honour at opening ceremony


KUCHING, Sarawak Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar and his wife Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi have been invited as the guests of honour at the opening ceremony of the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA XXI) on Saturday.

The Sarawak State Secretariat informed that the invitation was conveyed by the Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development of Sarawak, who is also SUKMA XXI organising committee chairman, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, during a courtesy visit today.

Also present were the Deputy Minister of Youth, Sports and Entrepreneur Development of Sarawak, Dr Ripin Lamat, and SUKMA XXI chief executive officer Datu Hii Chang Kee.

‘The SUKMA opening ceremony will take place on Saturday at the Sarawak Stadium and will be officiated by Tun Wan Junaidi,’ he said in a statement today.

In conjunction with SUKMA XXI, Bernama has launched a special website, sukma.bernama.com, providing news related to the current developments of the state contingents, achievements, and interesting
stories about the athletes involved in the biennial sports event.

The bilingual website will also feature the latest results, photo galleries, videos, medal tally charts, and interesting facts about the 21st edition of SUKMA.

SUKMA 2024 will feature 37 sports across 488 events, comprising 236 men’s events, 217 women’s events, and 35 mixed events, with competitions held across nine divisions: Kuching, Samarahan, Serian, Sri Aman, Betong, Sibu, Mukah, Bintulu, and Miri.

Introduced in 1986, SUKMA has been hosted in Sarawak twice, in 1990 and 2016.
