SUKMA 2024: Sarawak Set To Dazzle With Spectacular Opening Ceremony Tonight

KUCHING, The stage is set for an electrifying night as the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) officially launches with a spectacular opening ceremony at the Sarawak Stadium.

A mesmerising blend of Sarawak’s vibrant arts, rich cultural heritage and time-honoured traditions will take centre stage, complemented by dazzling laser displays that are sure to captivate the thousands in attendance.

The grand spectacle, to be graced by the Yang Dipertua Negeri Tun Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar at 8.30 pm, promises an unforgettable visual feast.

Adding to the excitement, Malaysia’s top musical talents – Jaclyn Victor, Faizal Tahir, Masha Milan and Bob Yusof – will light up the stage with their performances.

The evening’s crescendo will be the ceremonial lighting of the SUKMA 2024 cauldron, symbolising the spirit of competition and unity.

Organisers are expecting a packed stadium brimming with local fans eager to witness the grandeur of the Games’ return to Sarawak, last hosted here in 2016.

In preparation for this monume
ntal event, several key routes leading to Sarawak Stadium will be closed from 3 pm onwards.

These include the Sesco roundabout, Kesuma Resort roundabout, entrances to the parking areas in front of the State Stadium, the Squash Court intersection and roads leading to Gates D and A, as well as areas around Kampung Stadium.

To ensure a smooth experience, the public is advised to avoid parking on road shoulders and to plan alternative routes to mitigate traffic congestion.

Running until Aug 24, SUKMA 2024 features a thrilling lineup with 488 gold medals up for grabs across 37 sports disciplines.

The competition unfolds at 50 venues, with over 12,000 athletes from all corners of Malaysia, joined by a contingent from Brunei, adding to the flair of this prestigious biennial event.
