SUKMA 2024: Penang, S’gor, Melaka Join Defending Champs T’ganu In Sepak Takraw Semis


BINTULU, Aug 16 (Bernama) – Terengganu, the reigning Malaysia Games (SUKMA) sepak takraw champions, edged closer to defending their title with a commanding 2-0 victory over the Federal Territories (FT) in the men’s team quarter-finals at the Muhibah Stadium here today.

Terengganu’s Regu A secured a straightforward win against their opponents with set scores of 15-10, 15-12.

FT’s attempt to push the match to a decider was thwarted as Terengganu’s Regu B easily won in straight sets, 15-11, 15-6 to take the East Coast side to the semi-finals in style.

In other quarter-final action, Penang, the 2022 bronze medallists, lived up to expectations by advancing to the semi-finals after defeating Pahang 2-0.

Penang’s Regu A delivered a strong performance to overcome Pahang with scores of 15-13, 15-10, while Regu B continued the momentum with a 15-7, 15-10 win over the ‘Tok Gajah’ squad.

Melaka also made it to the last four, overcoming Sabah in a 2-0 win. Melaka’s Regu A won 15-5, 17-16, while their Regu B faced a
tougher challenge but secured victory after three sets, winning 15-10, 3-15, 15-12.

Meanwhile, 2022 silver medallists Perak got dumped out of the competition by Selangor, losing 0-2.

Perak’s Regu A fell short in their 11-15, 17-15, 11-15 loss while their second regu did not have enough in them to rescue their squad, losing 11-15, 8-15.

The semi-finals will feature Penang against Melaka and Selangor versus Terengganu, with both matches kicking off at 7.30 pm today at the same venue.
