SUKMA 2024: Eight Is Enough For Sarawak To Lead Gold Medal Chase


KUCHING, Hosts Sarawak climbed to the top of the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) medal tally after bagging eight gold medals as of 10 pm today.

In their medal quest today, Sarawak bagged three golds in taekwondo and one through their women bowlers in the doubles event.

Meanwhile, Sarawak wushu exponent Stephanie Ngu Chai Ern continued to excel when she struck gold at the SSC Wushu Hall here to take her gold-medal collection to three at this year’s edition.

Melaka are next with seven gold medals, with four of them coming from wushu today.

The Federal Territories were also outstanding today with a three-gold achievement, with one from wushu and two more from lawn bowls, taking their total to six golds and third place in the medal standings.

As of 10 pm today, 2022 edition runners-up Terengganu find themselves in fourth spot.

Tomorrow, a total of 23 gold medals will be up for grabs before the main event – SUKMA 2024 official opening ceremony – takes place at the Sarawak Stadium at 8.30 pm.
