SUKIPT 2024: UUM Sweep All Eight Gold Medals At Stake In Golf

SINTOK, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) created history when it bagged all eight gold medals in the golf event at the 2024 Higher Education Institution Games (SUKIPT).

The eight gold medals were from the men’s individual gross, women’s individual gross, men’s individual nett, women’s individual nett, men’s team gross, men’s team nett, women’s team gross and women’s pairs gross.

In the men’s individual gross and women’s individual gross categories, UUM also made a clean sweep of the gold, silver and bronze medals.

All UUM golfers comprise UUM National Golf Academy (AGN) students who competed in their respective categories for four days starting on Friday (Sept 6).

UUM vice-chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Mohd Foad Sakdan presented the prizes to all the winners as soon as the events ended at UUM’s Sultan Sallehuddin Golf Club here this afternoon.

Director of UUM National Golf Academy, Associate Prof Dr Zaheruddin Othman said that the gold and silver achievement by AGN students in the golf event will be an inspir
ation for the UUM contingent in this year’s SUKIPT (Sept 6-14).

According to him, in the SUKIPT Games (participants from both public and private higher institutions) two years ago, UUM only managed four gold medals but this time around UUM swept all the gold medals at stake.

“This victory is very sweet because UUM is celebrating its 40th anniversary and proves to the KPT (Ministry of Higher Education) how the selection of UUM as a Golf Sports Centre of Excellence is most apt.

“I myself did not expect UUM to win all the gold medals in the golf events because the competitors from other higher education institutions are no less great,” he said.
