Sufficient Water For MADA Farmers This Season

ALOR SETAR, The farmers in the Muda Agricultural Development Authority (MADA) area do not have to worry about the irrigation of crops for this season and the 2/2024 season.

MADA general manager Kamarudin Dahuli said the reservoirs in the three dams operated by the authority are still able to cover the needs for agriculture based on simulations that have been made.

“Perhaps there is concern among rice farmers, but God willing we can supply water for irrigation. From the simulation made and based on the records of the last 20 years, we will be able to supply water for irrigating padi crops in season 1/2024 perfectly.

“Even with the percentage of the reservoir, we have also done a simulation that if there is no rain until the end of this season, we can still supply water for the 2/2024 season with that reservoir,” he said.

He told reporters when he was met at the Agricultural Census 2024 Field Visit Session by chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin in Kubang Rotan, here today.

Meanwhile, Kamaru
din said the cloud seeding operation (OPA) implemented by the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA) together with MADA and the Kedah State Water Resources Board (LSANK) also helped increase the amount of water in the dam.

“Out of the three days the OPA was conducted, it was found that on two days, on July 30 and 31, there was rain at the dam which to some extent helped to increase the water reservoir.

“In the Pedu Dam there is currently more than 40 per cent of the current reservoir which can ensure that the supply of the resource will not be affected,” he said.

He added that MADA will discuss with NADMA and LSANK if there is a need to implement more OPA in the dam area.
