Steph-Ping Up To The Plate: It’s Gold No. 3 For Sarawak Wushu Ace

KUCHING, Sarawak wushu exponent Stephanie Ngu Chai Ern proved to be in a class of her own when she bagged her third gold medal at the 2024 Malaysia Games (SUKMA) at the SSC Wushu Hall this morning.

Stephanie’s third gold came after she emerged with the highest score of 9.606 points in the women’s qiangshu final.

The 20-year-old, taking to the floor as the second last participant, had no problem brushing aside the challenges of silver medallist Lee Cheng Wei (9.570 points) of the Federal Territories and bronze medallist Tang Koh Ming (9.553 points) of Penang.

With her latest feat, Stephanie is now the only athlete to have the most number of gold medals at the 21st edition of the Games.

Yesterday, she struck gold in jianshu. She had earlier presented hosts Sarawak with their first gold medal of this edition in the changquan event on Wednesday (Aug 14).

This is Stephanie’s fourth appearance in SUKMA, having won two bronzes in the 2016 edition (also in Sarawak) as well as a silver and a bronzse in the 2018
and 2022 editions.

The three-day wushu competition, which offers a total of 28 medals, ends today.
