SSTMI Emerge Victorious In Melaka International Rugby 10s Organised By Bank Muamalat


MELAKA, The Tunku Mahkota Ismail Sports School (SSTMI) emerged as the champion of the ‘Melaka International Rugby 10s’ international rugby tournament for the International and local men’s open categories.

Organised by Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad (Bank Muamalat) in collaboration with the Melaka government, the competition was held at the Hang Tuah Stadium here.

Apart from the two main categories, an Under-14 category was also held during the championship which saw Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Telok Mas (Melaka Rugby Academy) emerge as the champion while Melaka High School Old Boys emerged as champions in the Veteran category.

The Closing and Prize Presentation Ceremony for the ‘Melaka International Rugby 10s’ Championship was officiated by Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh today.

Also in attendance was Works, Infrastructure, Public Facilities and State Transport committee chairman Datuk Hameed Mytheen Kunju Basheer who is also the President of the Melaka Rugby Union Datuk Hameed Mythee
n Kunju Basheer and the President and Chief Executive Officer of Bank Muamalat Khairul Kamarudin.

Meanwhile, Bank Muamalat’s Chief Operating Officer Zury Rahimee Zainal Abiden when met by reporters said the ‘Merdeka Carnival of Better Life, Together with Bank Muamalat’ which started on Aug 30 and ended today, raised the theme of unity, togetherness and patriotism.

The carnival was attended by more than 5,000 visitors.

He said that by filling in interesting activities, the Merdeka Carnival succeeded in attracting the interest of rugby sports lovers, sponsors and partners such as POS Malaysia and Strike Rugby Gear as well as stimulating the local economy through bazaar sales and handicraft exhibitions from local entrepreneurs.

‘During these three days, in addition to the ‘Melaka International Rugby 10s’ tournament, there was also the opening of a local food, drink and handicraft bazaar, an exhibition and sale of products by iTEKAD Bank Muamalat entrepreneurs.

‘In addition, a mobile dental clinic was also s
et up by Universiti Malaya’s business partner as well as an auto exhibition which was open to the public and visitors had the opportunity to apply for products and services offered by Bank Muamalat throughout the carnival at the Bank Muamalat booth,’ he said.

Commenting further, Zury Rahimee said Bank Muamalat always explores opportunities for strategic cooperation with any entity, whether private or government, for the organization of similar programs that can benefit both parties such as the collaboration with the Melaka government.
